Statistik Matematika

Kita harus dapat membedakan apa yang dimaksud Statistik, Statistik
Dasar, Statistika, dan Statistik Matematika. Karena kesemuanya itu
memiliki arti yang berbeda, berikut penjelasannya.

1. Pengertian Statistik

Statistik secara etimologis (asal kata) berasal dari bahasa latin
"status" yang dalam bahasa inggris "State" yang berarti negara.
Mengapa disebut negara ? Karena sejak dahulu kala statistik hanya
digunakan untuk kepentingan negara seperti jumlah penduduk, pendapatan
penduduk, perpajakan, dll.

Menurut Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI), statistik adalah
angka-angka (bilangan); perangkaan ; data yang berupa angka yang
dikumpulkan, ditabulasi, digolong-golongkan sehingga dapat memberi
informasi yang berarti mengenai suatu masalah atau gejala.

Menurut Sudjana, statistik adalah kumpulan angka-angka yang melukiskan
atau menggambarkan suatu persoalan, biasanya disusun dalam tabel atau
daftar, sering disertai diagram atau grafik atau keterangan lain

Dengan demikian berdasarkan penjelasan di atas, statistik adalah
susunan angka yang memberikan gambaran tentang diagram, histogram,
poligon frekuensi, ozaiv (ogive), ukuran penempatan (median, kuartil,
desil, dan persentil), ukuran gejala pusat (rata-rata hitung,
rata-rata ukur, rata-rata harmonik, dan modus), simpanan baku, angka
baku, kurva normal, korelasi dan regresi linear. Statistik dalam
artian ini adalah statistik dalam arti yang sempit yang disebut juga
Statistik Deskriptif. Materi-materi yang disebutkan di atas adalah
materi matakuliah Statistik Dasar bagi mereka yang lanjut ke Perguruan
Tinggi sedangkan pada tingkat Menengah pertama (SMP) yaitu masalah
penyajian data, mean, median, modus, desil, persentil, dan peluang
sama halnya pada tingkat menengah atas (SMA) juga dipelajari.

2. Pengertian Statistika

Statistika (cabang ilmu statistik) merupakan salah satu alat untuk
mengumpulkan data, mengolah data, menarik kesimpulan, dan membuat
keputusan berdasarkan analisis data yang dikumpulkan tadi. Pengertian
ini disebut sebagai pengertian statistik dalam arti luas. Statistik
dalam arti luas ini meliputi statistik dalam arti sempit (Statistik
Deskriptif) dan Statistik Inferensial. Pada statistik deskriftif hanya
menggambarkan dan menganalisis kelompok data yang diberikan tanpa
penarikan kesimpulan sedangkan statistik inferensial menyangkut
penarikan kesimpulan tentang populasi yang didasarkan pada sampel yang
ditarik dan populasi. Statistik dalam arti luas disebut juga dengan
dengan istilah Statistika (Statistics, Statistik Inferensial,
Statistik Induktif, Statistik Probabilitas).

¤Statistik Non Parametrik dipakai apabila data kurang dari 30, atau
tidak normal, atau tidak linear.

-Tes Chi Kuadrat
-Tes KomogorovSmimov

¤Statistik Matematika ialah ilmu yang mempelajari asal-usul atau
penurunan sifat-sifat, dalil-dalil, rumus-rumus serta dapat diwujudkan
ke dalam model-model lain yang bersifat teoritis.

¤Statistik Praktis ialah penerapan statistik Matematis kedalam
berbagai bidang ilmu lainnya sehingga lahirlah istilah Statistika
Kedokteran, Statistik Sosial, dsb,

3. Peranan Statistik
Statistik berperan sebagai alat untuk :
-Deskripsi yaitu menggambarkan atau menerangkan data;
-Komparasi yaitu membandingkan data;
-Korelasi yaitu mencari besarnya hubungan data dalam suatu penelitian.
-Regresi yaitu meramalkan pengaruh data yang satu terhadap yang lainnya.
Kesemuanya itu digunakan untuk Skripsi, Tesis atau desertasi kita
nantinya dalam penelitian.
